Poetry from Suzanne Matson

The poems in As Creatures (Cloudbank Books, 2026), the newest volume of poetry from Boston College Professor of English Suzanne Matson, move across many years of time and memory, charting travels and life transition. They chronicle seismic shifts of loss, as well as the beauties and gifts of everyday life. The natural world serves as an ever-present backdrop, reminding readers of humans’ interdependencies and vulnerabilities “as creatures.” Matson is the author of four novels, including A Trick of Nature and Ultraviolet, the poetry collections Sea Level and Durable Goods, and a nonfiction work, Winnowing. Matson will read poems from As Creatures at a book launch celebration on November 16 at 5:30 p.m., hosted by Burns Library in collaboration with Boston College Department of English.
