Why Liberal Education Matters

liberal ed bookWesleyan University President Michael S. Roth will present “Why Liberal Education Matters” on Nov. 12 at 7 p.m. in Gasson Hall, Room 100. Roth is the author of Beyond the University: Why Liberal Education Matters (Yale University Press, 2014), a stirring plea for the kind of education that has, since the founding of the nation, cultivated individual freedom, promulgated civic virtue and instilled hope for the future. While serving at Wesleyan, he has overseen the launch of the Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life, the Shapiro Creative Writing Center, and four new colleges emphasizing interdisciplinary research and cohort building.
