Lessing’s Legacy is a special volume of the Lessing Yearbook co-edited by Jonathan Blake Fine, Joseph A. Haydt, and Boston College Assistant Professor of Political Science Hannes Kerber. Lessing’s Legacy brings together the highlights of a 2023 conference on the topic held in Chicago. In the volume, leading scholars reassess Gotthold Ephraim Lessing’s enduring significance across theology, philosophy, aesthetics, drama, and intellectual history. Contributions range from close readings of Lessing’s religious and epistemological writings to studies of Nathan the Wise in modern reception and theater performance, as well as reflections on the institutional and intellectual history of Lessing scholarship itself.
