BC Lynch School of Education and Human Development faculty members Dennis Shirley and Andy Hargreaves, internationally recognized experts in the field of education, have collaborated on the new book, The Age of Identity: Who Do Our Kids Think They Are and How Do We Help Them Belong? (Corwin, 2023). Written for educators, families, and school board members, The Age of Identity is a compelling call to action for a proactive approach to building a learning environment that values the diverse identities of all students. The book’s message is that there’s more to all of us than meets the eye, so we need to take the time to pay greater attention to one another. In The Age of Identity, the authors set out 12 guiding principles that leaders can use to help everyone move forward together. Shirley and Hargreaves discussed the book in this Q&A.
